About Coulee Region TU ​

Coulee Region Trout Unlimited is 501 c3 non-profit all volunteer organization & chapter #278 of Trout Unlimited. CRTU began in 1974 & serves Crawford, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, & Vernon counties in Wisconsin's Driftless Region.

CRTU was the recipient of the 2020-21 Wisconsin Trout Unlimited Silver Trout Award, thanks lớn all the work by our volunteers.

We resumed in-person & online meetings in September. Look here & on our Facebook page for details about our activities.

2022 Rod Raffle - We have tickets for a bamboo rod made for us to raffle to lớn raise funds for stream work in the CRTU area. Tickets can be purchased at the Driftless Angler in Viroqua or by contacting Fred Spademan (fred
spademan.com), our chapter president. We will be sure to have them at summer events as well.

​We will be looking for volunteers for the Second Annual Stream Girls event we will be hosting this summer. It was a most excellent event and volunteers have (almost) as much fun as the girls! If you are interested assisting with the event this summer, please use the liên hệ form. The tentative date is August 6th at the West Fork Sports Club in Avalanche.

Recent events:

June 25th - We hosted probably 100 kids at Coon Creek Trout Fest in Coon Valley.

Our May picnic was in Coon Valley was a lot of fun! Thanks khổng lồ all that attended - it was a good phối of old và new friends.

Early in May, we helped the Southern Wisconsin and Nohr Chapters of Trout Unlimited for a work day planting trees on a new WDNR property Willow Creek in Richland County.

The February membership featured women trout anglers - Marlene Huston and Donna Smith. They presented a variety of great resources for female fly anglers. Look for a page on our website khổng lồ come with those links.

The soon khổng lồ be retiring Trout Unlimited - Driftless Area Restoration Effort (TU-DARE) project manager, Jeff Hastings, presented about his career in stream restoration and where TU-DARE is going in the future at the February meeting. . Jeff did a fantastic job in that position và the next project manager has large shoes to fill! Thanks for the talk and your many years of service, Jeff!

December holiday party was at Christos Taverna in La Crosse on December 15th - thanks for all that came out và joined us.

October membership meeting featured Severin Tubbin, a Viroqua area high school junior, & Dr. David Schumann, a UW - La Crosse professor in Biology. Severin presented about his summer travels - many of which were COVID-impacted - and David talked about his journey to fisheries research and the work of his lab at UW-L.

September membership meeting - at the Westview Inn in West Salem, Dr. Al Gedicks talked about sulfide mining on the Menominee River in northeastern Wisconsin.

October state council meeting for Wisconsin Trout Unlimited was in Westby; several CRTU members attended và our President Fred Spademan ran the Zoom meeting. He also accepted the Silver Trout Award for the chapter và Jeff Hastings of TU-DARE received the Service Award of Merit at the meeting.
